Prospective Students

The Emory Dance Program offers a well-rounded course of dance study within the larger context of a liberal arts education, culminating in a bachelor of arts (B.A.) degree.

Our program is based in modern dance and also offers training in ballet, jazz, cultural dance forms, improvisation, choreography, and body therapies. Our other course offerings include courses in dance theory, history, and composition.

As an Emory student, you have the option of majoring or minoring in dance or you are welcome to take dance classes independently of a degree program. In addition, many of our students choose to double major in dance and another area of study. Please note that we do not require an audition to major or minor in dance.

Majors, minors, and general students take classes together and all have equal opportunities for involvement in the Emory Dance Company and various other student dance organizations. Emory’s location in Atlanta provides dance students with exposure to a wonderful array of local and visiting dance companies; visiting artists and master classes are regular features of our program. Dance majors and minors are eligible to apply for the Sally A. Radell Friends of Dance Scholarship, which supports study at summer dance programs.

We encourage students to combine their interests in dance with other areas of study. Dance students at Emory have gone on to graduate programs in dance, physical therapy, dance therapy, medicine, and law, among others. Several graduates are now full-time dance administrators, while others are pursuing work as professional dancers and choreographers.
