Blake Beckham is a choreographer, producer and dance educator in Atlanta. She serves as the Executive and Artistic Director of The Lucky Penny, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating and advancing daring performance. Beckham directs the company's Work Room studio, home to a residency program for contemporary choreographers. Blake’s artistry and leadership have been recognized with a SEED Fund Grant from The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, Tanne Foundation Award, and Community Impact Award from Emory's Center for Creativity. Blake earned a BA in English and Dance (2001) from Emory University, where she received The Sudler Prize for highest achievement in the arts. She attended Ohio State as a University Fellow, to complete her MFA in Choreography (2005). Beckham has served on the dance faculty at Agnes Scott College and Emory University. She has worked in the Development Department at the celebrated youth program, Moving in the Spirit since 2006.
Blake’s current body of choreographic work examines the intersections of dance and design, where architectural impulses collide with embodied inquiry. Working with large teams of multi-disciplinary collaborators, Blake creates production designs filled with stunning imagination. Her recent pieces transforming theatrical space into evocative interior worlds include OneAnother (2016), Dearly Departures (2014) and Threshold (2012).
